The Hunts Phil and St Ives Choral Society are delighted to announce the first of our three soloists for CARMINA BURANA this Summer. Not only is Greg Tassell a veteran of this fantastic repertoire, he is also a mighty fun character and has previous form for performing the role of the roasting swan in Carmina Burana in full costume….! 😳🦢

Recent partnerships include performances with Opera a la Carte and Nova Music, and Greg enjoys a busy soloist schedule performing much loved favourites such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Bach’s passions. Teaching & outreach is important to Greg; he teaches at St Edmund’s School in Canterbury and was honoured to be part of The English Touring Opera’s award-winning education programme, presenting opera to special needs children. Greg is also very proud to conduct an experienced amateur choir, The Thanet Chamber Choir and has recently led them in performances of Durufle’s Requiem and Bach’s Jesu Meine Freude.

He is is a founder member of professional chamber choir Sonoro and vocal quartet Twilight Ensemble. Greg has performed chorus and various smaller or premiere roles with English Touring Opera, being the first to ever play the role of Badger in Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr Fox! He also regularly performs unusual repertoire such as Macmillan’s Gloria, McDowall’s Some corner of a foreign field, Monteverdi’s Vespers and Buxtehude’s Jesu Membra Nostri.

Not limiting himself to the classical repertoire, Greg has a particular fondness for the music of Elvis Presley. Quite the entertainer for friends and family, he has been known to don a jumpsuit and sing a few numbers himself at parties!

When not on the stage, Greg is a keen golfer and cricketer, when time (and his wife) allows.
